FIXED
PENALTY NOTICES FOR ABSENCE The school has regular meetings with our
Educational Social Worker to look at attendance and absence across the
school. At the most recent meeting we
were informed that any absences not agreed in advance with the Headteacher on a leave of absence form, may be subject to
a ‘fixed penalty notice’. This means the absence would be passed on to the
local authority, who would then issue a fine directly to the parent. Please
be aware that leave will only be granted if the absence is in exceptional
circumstances i.e. not holidays! We have also been instructed to ask for a
doctor’s note if children are not in school and the absences are greater than
would be normally expected with illness. Our aim is to improve our attendance this year
and our target is at least 97%, please help us meet the target by making sure
your child is in school every day unless they are ill! Thanks for your
support. |

MACMILLAN BIG COFFEE
MORNING Thanks for your
support again this year. The coffee morning was lovely and busy and the cakes
were delicious. Thank you to Morwenna for organising the event and to
everyone who made cakes, donated raffle prizes and came along to give their
support. Thank you also to Y6 for doing a grand job of icing the cakes for
the rest of the school. Morwenna will be counting up the donations at some
point this week so I’ll let you know how much was raised in next week’s
newsletter. |

WATER AID AND HARVEST For our Harvest
assembly today we focused on water and it’s crucial roll in sustaining
communities across the world. We talked about the
charity WaterAid and the work they do in providing wells and taps with fresh
water for many communities where rainfall is unpreditable. The children came
up with some brilliant ideas for fundraising over the next few weeks to
support the charity, such as a Bad Hair day with a water theme, wristbands in
watery colours to sell, sponsored silence/other events, cake sale,
non-uniform day. The children have gone away to come up with even more great
ideas and I will keep you posted about what will be happening and when. |

Dear All, Below are the Ward crime stats for
September. Burglary was fairly low last month, with 9 such offences reported.
This compares favourably with the 17 burglaries we suffered in September last
year. We had 8 motor vehicle offences last
month, which was exactly the same amount as both the previous month and in
September last year. We had three vehicles stolen from
our ward last month, all three were Ford Transit vans, one was on a '63'
plate, the other two were both on '08' plates. There were also three thefts from
unlocked vehicles. We always recommend that you lock your vehicle even if you
are only going to be away from it for a short time - don't give opportunist
thieves an opportunity! A case in point is the theft from a vehicle in
Oakleigh Road South. The victim of this offence was attending the BP garage
at the location when it happened. The victim had left his vehicle unlocked
whilst going into the garage shop to pay for petrol and did not even see the
person who then entered his vehicle and stole two phones from inside it. There is however also one success
story to report from last week, on Thursday Barnet police officers stopped a
vehicle on Totteridge Lane. The vehicle was on false plates and the driver also
had no insurance for the vehicle. The driver was therefore arrested for both
these offences, the number plates having been stolen from Brunswick
Industrial Estate the previous day. Regards, Justin PCSO Justin Burda
