SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Class

Week ending:

24.11.17

LS003422Please note any children arriving in school after 9.15 a.m. will be marked in the

register as an ‘unauthorised absence’.

This may then trigger a meeting with the school’s Educational Social Worker (ESW)

to discuss punctuality.

Well done to 1D for great attendance

last week and well done to Y5 for super attendance too!

Whole school attendance dropped below 96% for the first time last week due to quite a lot of illness across the school-better start taking that Vitamin C in preparation for winter!

·         ‘ONE CAN’ FOOD BANK AND TRUST

·         We would like to support our local food banks this year, as Christmas can be a very difficult time for some families to manage to put enough food on the table. I have talked to the children in assembly about all the things we have to be grateful for and what a good thing it is to be able to think about others who are less fortunate especially at Christmas time. Louiza, one of our governors suggested supporting our local foodbanks and has offered to transport our donations too. The food bank suggests putting aside a ‘can a day’ until Christmas like a reverse advent calendar but we would be very grateful for any donations from the list below between now and Friday 15th December. Please pop a few extra cans in your shopping trolley each time you visit the supermarket! You are always so generous, I know the local foodbanks will be very grateful. Thank you in anticipation.

·         Tinned potatoes / dried mash

·         Tinned vegetables

·         Pasta sauce

TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY

As stated in the newsletter of 6th November, I am grateful to the parent who came to explain more fully the parking incident that occurred outside of school. Some racist language was used by the other person involved and they also drove their car towards the parent in a threatening way. This then resulted in the incident witnessed by some parents. I should have asked for more information at the time of the incident and spoken to the parent directly before publicising the event in the newsletter. I apologise if I have caused any unnecessary grief for the parent in question. I would advise all parents not to park near the bend leading into Parkside Gardens to avoid any further issues.

FOOTBALL FIXTURES THIS TERM (No football training on Thursdays until the end of term)

All fixtures are after school and are away matches. Miss Pierides is really grateful to parents who have volunteered to help with transport.

Thursday 30th November: Monkfrith v Akiva (Away)

Thursday 14th December: Monkfrith v Moss Hall Juniors (Away-Dick Bailey cup match)

GREAT GAME V ST THERESA’S

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL CHRISTMAS  YEARS 1-6 – MONDAY 18th & WEDNESDAY 20TH  DECEMBER (9.30 A.M.)

RECEPTION NATIVITY – MONDAY 18th DECEMBER (2.30 P.M.) & TUESDAY 19th DECEMBER (9.30 A.M.)

Tickets for the Y1-Y6 concert (Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas) and the Reception Nativity are £2 each and limited to 2 per family initially.

How to get your ticket/s

  • Fill in the slip at the bottom of the newsletter, ticking the performance you want and whether you wish to have one or two tickets.
  • Put the slip and £2 per ticket in a named envelope and send into school via your child’s book bag. Please note that requests for tickets will not be accepted at the office.
  • Deadline for tickets: Monday 11th December (any requests sent into school after this date will be returned to you)
  • Your tickets will be sent home via your child’s book bag on Wednesday 13th December.
  • Admittance is by ticket only.

Space in the hall will be very limited for the Y1-6 performance. We are sorry but pre-school children will not be able to attend either of the performances.  Younger children may come to the Nativity but must be able to sit quietly, as the little voices of the actors can get lost otherwise. If you have a very lively toddler, please don’t bring them, as it spoils the performance for other parents. Push-chairs need to be parked on the top corridor near the library so they don’t become a hazard for children and parents in the event of needing to evacuate the building.

FOMS News

Treasurer

FOMS are looking for a new Treasurer to join our committee.

The Treasurer ensures accurate financial records are kept and best practice procedures are followed for counting money, banking and making payments. He or she would require a basic understanding of book keeping, and will lead the ‘money team’ at events, which involves organising floats, counting money, making payments/reimbursements and deposits.  The treasurer should also keep the committee updated with regular reports, and ensure end of year reports are completed for the association’s AGM and the Charity Commission annual return.

Being FOMS treasurer is not overly complicated and it can be a very fun way of being involved with your child’s school. You will also be a highly valued member of the friendly FOMS team, so please join us! If you are interested, please email us at FriendsofMonkfrithSchool@gmail.com

Rainbow Day:  Friday 1st December. Children may wear their own clothes and bring a bottle for the bottle tombola at the Christmas Fair.

Christmas Fair – 8th December 3:30-6:30

FOMS will be hosting two ‘working’ coffee mornings at school in the run up to the Christmas Fair to help prepare, organise and wrap what needs doing before the fair. Please come along to help get everything ready, have a tea or coffee, and most likely a good chat too. These mornings will be:

·         Friday 1st December at 9:00a.m. and Thursday 7th December at 9:00a.m.

Christmas Fair Bake Sale – we will have a cake sale as part of the Christmas Fair. We would be very grateful for cake donations on the day of the fair.

Stall sign-up sheets will go out to class reps this week. Please try to volunteer an hour of your time to help run the many stalls and activities we will be having at the event. If you are available before and/or after the event to help set up or clean up, that would be amazing too!

Information on booking Grotto Room tickets for the Christmas Fair will be sent out this week – keep an eye out for it as time slots will be on a first come, first serve basis.

In other Christmas Fair news, unfortunately Waterfield Brooke encountered a printing error with the boards and will not be able to put up boards to advertise the Christmas Fair. They will still be sponsoring the event in other ways. Thank you to everyone who was happy to have a board and gave us your address – we will try again with the estate agent boards before the Summer Fair.
