BE BRIGHT BE SEEN

Please make sure that your child is wearing something bright, reflective if possible, on these dark winter mornings, especially if your child is a lone traveller.

OFFICE EMAIL (office@monkfrithschool.co.uk)

From now on, please use the email at the top of the newsletter to report absences or send notes to the office. Thank you.

FRIDAY FOOTBALL LOST PROPERTY

Friday’s haul was one black Next school shoe size 13, a polo shirt and a sweatshirt. If your child has lost any of these, please let the office know and we will send the items home.

STEPPED ACCESS ON BROOKSIDE SOUTH

The builders are aware of the problem of water lying on the new steps on Brookside South and will be resolving this as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

DEVELOPING PLAY AREAS

You may have noticed a new climbing frame being fitted near the steps on Brookside South. We also have plans for some other large play equipment to be fitted next to the Key Stage 1 play area and also near to our Reception classes. This will create several new exciting play areas for the children to enjoy over the next few months and in the future. We would also like to resurface our Key Stage 1 play area (outside the Y1 classrooms) but I am having trouble getting quotes from contractors. If any one can recommend a company, please let me know.

FoMS are also waiting for quotes at the moment for a small all weather football area. This will be a great extra space and take football off the main KS2 play area freeing it up for other games. All our fundraising will be going towards this over the next couple of years. FoMS will also be making bids for grants/matched funding to help with the purchase.

THE MONKFRITH SPRING RAFFLE EXTRAVAGANZA
Do you or a friend / family member have their own business? Can you help us fundraise for our children's playground?  FOMS are planning a big springtime raffle and we are looking for businesses who would be happy to donate a raffle prize.  This could be donations such as a gift card for a service (beautician etc ), a voucher for a restaurant, or an item or voucher from a shop.  If you are able to donate something to help the fundraising for the playground, please do contact us at F.O.M.S@outlook.com, speak to a committee member, or put a note in your child's book bag for the attention of FOMS.  We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks and best wishes for 2017,
The FOMS committee

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Barnet council is consulting on changes to the admission arrangements for Barnet community schools. The following changes are being proposed:

  1. To give priority for places to children of teaching staff of the school where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made and will be in employment as a teacher at the school when the child starts school.
  2. To amend the In-Year admission oversubscription criterion, which gives priority to former pupils at the school, restricting this priority to former pupils without a school place that live in the geographical area and have attended the school in the previous 12 months.

The consultation will run until 31 January 2017 and can also be viewed online at https://engage.barnet.gov.uk/

We encourage all parents to express their views by taking part in the online survey

FUNDRAISING FOR THE ROYAL BROMPTON HOSPITAL

Thank you for all your donations. We have raised £185 for the Royal Brompton so far. Alex will be running a cake sale on Friday (27th). Alex and a group of her friends will be making cakes to sell in the Key Stage 1 playground at the end of the day on Friday. If anyone would like to donate cakes, Alex would be very grateful, please send them into school on Friday morning. If you are collecting your child on Friday, please remember to bring some money and if your child is an independent traveller remind them to bring some money on Friday.

48 HOUR RULE RE SICKNESS AND DIARRHOEA

We are experiencing a lot of cases of the winter vomiting bug at the moment especially in Key Stage 1. Please make sure that children stay off school for 48 hours counted from the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea. Thank you for your help.
