FOMS NEWS

1.  We are delighted to let you all know that the recent Quiz Night raised £930.  A big thank you to everyone who supported the event.  Thanks too, to businesses who delivered food or donated prizes to the raffle: Seafresh Fish Bar, Paint the Town, JC Hair for Men and Chaps Barbers (all Hampden Square); as well as John Lewis and Glyn Hopkins (St Albans).

2.  Seasonal shopping is now getting underway!  We'd like to encourage everyone who shops online to sign up for Easyfundraising as a quick and easy way to support FOMS (go to
easyfundraising.org.uk and search for Monkfrith School Association).  More information about this is on the FOMS section of the school website and will be emailed this week.

3.  We have been able to extend the Christmas Card deadline to
this Wednesday 23rd November.  If you would still like to order cards etc. then please hand in the money (cheques payable to FOMS) and order form as soon as possible.

4. And finally, would you like to join us? We are always looking for more people to join the committee and help organise events.  We meet locally at times to suit us, and are a very friendly bunch with children in different years! If you want to find out more please contact us at
F.O.M.S@outlook.com

Thank you!

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS FOR OUR NEIGHBOURS IN PARKSIDE GARDENS

When the choir goes along to sing for the residents in the Hasluck Trust Housing in Parkside Gardens, we would like to take along some Christmas gifts. We would be grateful if you could send in small items so that we can make up hampers. To ensure we have a variety of foodstuffs, I have suggested things that each class can bring. Please only send one item per child, thank you.

Reception Ross: a small Christmas pudding

Reception Candler: a packet of ready made custard

Y1C:  Christmas crackers

Y1D: a pack of Pringles

Y2S: a small pack of chocolates

Y2D: a Christmas candle

Y3: a jar of cranberry sauce

Y4: a small Christmas cake

Y5: crackers for cheese

Y6LD: chutney

Y6D: a small pack of mince pies

Please send in any items by Friday 9th December. Thank you so much for your support.

YEAR 1 BOOK BAGS

As part of our move to help children become more independent and responsible in Year 1, children are encouraged to check their book bags for any trip letters, payments, messages from home every morning. As the children come into the classroom in the morning they are encouraged to check their book bag for anything that needs handing in to their teacher. Please help them by reminding them as you drop them off if there is something to hand in. Obviously, this system isn’t foolproof so if something keeps coming back to you, please text/email the office and we will check! Thanks for your help.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO FOOTBALL TRAINING ON THURSDAY 24TH NOVEMBER AS THERE IS A FOOTBALL MATCH.

SCHOOL MEALS IN JANUARY

We are delighted that our kitchen will be back in action from 5th January. New menus will be on the school website in the next few weeks. Please can you let the office know by Friday 9th December if your child is switching back to school meals in January 2017. Thank you.

MEDICINES IN SCHOOL

If your child has antibiotics 3 times a day, there is no need to send it into school. Give first dose morning, 2nd dose after school and 3rd dose bed-time. If 4 times, then school will administer at lunch-time. Don’t forget that we can only give prescription medicine, not Calpol or cough medicines etc. Please make sure that you fill in a permission form in the office in you wish us to administer medicines.

FLUTE AND CLARINET RECITAL- Friday 9th December at 9.00 a.m.

MEETINGS COMING UP FOR RECEPTION PARENTS

Tuesday 22nd November: Reception coffee morning in the hall.

‘THE CHRISTMAS STORY’  YEARS 1-6 – MONDAY 19th & WEDNESDAY 21st  DECEMBER (9.30 a.m.)

RECEPTION NATIVITY – MONDAY 19th DECEMBER (2.30 P.M.) & TUESDAY 20th DECEMBER (9.30 A.M.)

Tickets for the Y1-Y6 concert (The Christmas Story) and the Reception Nativity are £2 each and limited to 2 per family initially.

How to get your ticket/s

  • Fill in the slip at the bottom of the newsletter, ticking the performance you want and whether you wish to have one or two tickets.
  • Put the slip and £2 per ticket in a named envelope and send into school via your child’s book bag. Please note that requests for tickets will not be accepted at the hatch.
  • Deadline for tickets: Friday 2nd December (any requests sent into school after this date will be returned to you)
  • Your tickets will be sent home via your child’s book bag on Friday 9th December.
  • Admittance is by ticket only.

Space in the hall will be very limited for the Christmas Story performance. We are sorry but pre-school children will not be able to attend either of the performances.  Younger children may come to the Nativity but must be able to sit quietly, as the little voices of the actors can get lost otherwise. If you have a very lively toddler, please don’t bring them, as it spoils the performance for other parents. Push-chairs need to be parked on the top corridor near the library so they don’t become a hazard for children and parents in the event of needing to evacuate the building.
