SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Class

Week ending:

17.3.17

Please note any children arriving in school after 9.15 a.m. will be marked in the register as an ‘unauthorised absence’. This may then trigger a meeting with the school’s Educational Social Worker (ESW) to discuss punctuality.

Well done to RC and Y2D for the best attendance in Key Stage 1 and well done to Y6LD for the highest attendance in Key Stage 2 last week!

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTIONS

There have been some administrative difficulties with voting papers for this election and to ensure that a fair process takes place, governors have decided to make this election null and void.  The whole election process will be held again after the Easter break. Information for existing candidates and any new ones will be resent with 2 voting forms per family after the Easter break. Sorry for any confusion caused.

A MESSAGE FROM FOMS

1.  Thank you very much to all parents who came along and joined us for Bingo and curry.  We thought that there was a lovely atmosphere in the new dining room and we hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did! Special thanks to Morgan who did a fab job as our bingo caller for the evening. Thanks too to people who made donations towards the event.

2. Thank you to people who have already donated towards our Easter raffle, it's much appreciated. We're still needing a few more donations so would still really appreciate any donations of items or vouchers. Many thanks.

3.  And finally, a plea for cakes!  We're planning an after school Easter drinks and cake stall on Thursday 30th March. Any donations of cakes to sell would be very much appreciated. All proceeds from the sale, and every FOMS event, goes back into Monkfrith School.

Thanks and best wishes,
FOMS committee

LONDON MARATHON

Miss Candler will be running in the London Marathon on 23rd April to support the mental health charity MIND. Any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. Please visit her ‘Just Giving’ page to make a donation or for more information.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BROOKSIDE SOUTH GATE

At some point in the next couple of weeks the builders need to come and make necessary repairs to the steps leading up to the Key Stage 1 playgrond. This will solve the problem we currently have with water lying on the steps. When this happens, the Monkfrith Way gate will be reopened and parents will be able to access both playgrounds to collect children. Key Stage 2 children will be collected from the bottom playground as they were before the building work.

The Early Years entrance will be open as usual for Reception parents to use. Thanks for your understanding.

ABSENCE NOTIFICATION

Please let us know by 9.15 a.m. (at the latest), if your child is going to be absent from school. You can notify us by phone, email or by returning a text we have sent to you.

TUESDAY LUNCHTIME DANCE CLUB

Lots of Y5 children have come along to try out Tuesday dance club. I will give out letters this week to children who would like to sign up for next term. The cost for the whole term is £20 which averages out to just under £1 per session. Payment needs to be received by Friday 31st March, if your child wants to take part next term. Please send payment to the office via your child’s book bag. Thank you.

COMIC RELIEF- Friday 24th March

We will be supporting Comic Relief this year by holding a ‘bad hair’ day on Friday. If your child wishes to take part, they should bring in donation of £1 on the day and go wild with their hair! It is quite a while since we had ‘bad hair’ (intentionally anyway!) so I’m really looking forward to seeing how creative the children (and parents!) can be. Our red nose order hasn’t arrived yet, I’ll let you know as soon as they are available.

SPRING ART COMPETITION- closing date Monday 27th March

The challenge this year is to create a 3D masterpiece with a Spring theme. It could be made from clay, plasticine, card, junk, Lego etc- the choice is endless! Please make sure all creations have a label somewhere with your child’s name and class. All entries need to be brought into school by Monday 27th March and judging will take place on Wednesday 29th March. Pupil Council representatives will choose 3 winners from each class. Prizes will be given out in our Friday assembly next week.

Y6 ISLE OF WIGHT 3RD PAYMENT DUE- Friday 24th March (£80)

DRAMA CLUB NEXT TERM

Next term’s Drama Clubbers will be doing scenes from ‘Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone’- as I’m sure many of you know, this is a story about a young boy who finds out that not only is he is a wizard and there is a whole magical world he never knew existed, but he is famous too!  This is a well loved story that gives your children a chance to step into another world, playing fantastical characters and stretch their acting muscles at the same time!

Dates next term are as follows: 27th April to 6th July (presentation for parents on 6th July)

Fees are £60 for the 10 week course or £105 for two siblings.
To enrol your child (or ask any questions) email Jennie (
theplayingspace@me.com) with your child’s name, year group and your mobile number. She will then let you know how to make payment.

Thank you,

Gabi
