YEAR 2 AND 3 CASTINGS

Year 2 and 3 had a very exciting Friday morning as they were offered the chance to audition for a Christmas TV advert.  It was lovely to see so many children share their talents and personalities with the production company.  Afterwards we received this email from the producer:

'I just wanted to say a huge thank you...the children were all so fantastic, had great energy and were extremely well behaved.  They really made us smile.  Please tell the children to be very proud of themselves and their classmates.'

The production company left on Friday to discuss who they will be selecting and said they would let us know later in the week.  Even if your child was not selected this time, the casting agent said she would definitely offer us other opportunities in the future!

MONKFRITH CODE CLUB

Monkfrith Code Club (https://codeclubprojects.org/en-GB/) kicked off last week.

We had fun creating our own Rock Bands. You can see an example and details of our upcoming projects on the school website:http://monkfrithschool.co.uk/news-info/activity-timetable/code-club/.

If you'd like to join in (8am Wednesdays), please contact the school office.

ADMISSION TO RECEPTION CLASSES 2018/19

If your child will be 5 years old between September 2018 and August 2019, you need to apply for a Reception school place between now and Monday 15th January 2018. All applications should be made online at www.eadmissions.org.uk.  Paper application forms will not be available.  I recommend that parents download a copy of the booklet ‘A Guide to Primary Education in Barnet 2018’ from www.barnet.gov.uk/schooladmissions before beginning their application. If you need any help filling the application in, I am very happy to help, just let the office know.

Please let the office know if your child has a sibling that should be starting in our new Reception classes in September 2018. Thank you.

ROAD SAFETY

Barnet will be running a free child car seat checking and advice service on Thursday 26th October from 10am to 4pm in the Family Car Park at Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

YEAR 5 TO KINGSWOOD

Wednesday 4th October-Friday 6th October: Y5 to Kingswood Centre in Kent.

THE PLAYING SPACE (Thursday lunchtime drama club)

There are some spaces in KS2 (Year 3 to 6) drama club run by The Playing Space. This term's theme will be the classic tale of ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’.  Each session will consist of movement, communication and imagination games and activities. Children will step into this wonderful story, fall into the chocolate lake, blow up like a blueberry, battle with squirrels and have lots of fun!

Drama Club runs on Thursday lunchtimes, starting 28th September. There will be 10 sessions in all, with a presentation to friends and family during the last class on 7th December. The cost will be £60 per child for the 10 week course (sibling discount available). If you want your child to attend then please contact Jennie (theplayingspace@me.com) as soon as possible with your child’s name and year group.

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

On Wednesday 4th October 2017 we will be holding our first Walk to School Day.  Walking to school is a great way to get in some exercise before school and helps reduce the traffic around our school in for morning making it safer for everyone.  If you need to drive, then you can always park and stride - walking the last 10 minutes of the journey.  Children who walk, scoot, cycle or park and stride will be able to record their journey on our online travel tracker when they get to school and will receive the first Walk to School Badges.  The winning class will be announced in assembly on Friday and in the newsletter next week.

LEAVING MESSAGES

Please give first names and surnames plus a child’s class when leaving answerphone message or emailing.   We have lots of children with the same or similar names now! Thank you.

PARKING IN THE ENTRANCE TO CAR PARK

Please do not pull into the car park entrance area in the mornings to drop children off. This causes a hazard for children and parents when cars then need to reverse out. I have agreed that one parent may stop there as she has a disabled child but unless you have a similar difficulty, I would appreciate it if you would ‘park and stride’ or better still, walk to school. Thank you for keeping all our children safe.
