HEADLICE CHECK

We have had a couple of reports of headlice in school. Please check your child’s hair and if there are any ‘unwelcome visitors’, please treat and let us know. Thanks for your help.

RECEPTION START TIME

Please note that school starts at 8.55 a.m. for Reception children. Please make sure your children are here on time so they don’t miss any valuable learning time.

RECEPTION DATES FOR PARENTS

It was lovely to see the Reception parents who were able to come along to the Coffee morning last Wednesday, thanks for being there. Here are some reminders of the next Reception events in the pipeline.

Wednesday 18th October at 6.30 p.m: Meeting for Reception parents about phonics, reading and handwriting in the EYFS. This is a meeting for parents, please don’t bring children with you, thanks.

Wednesday 1st November 9.00 a.m: RECEPTION R Stay and Play (bring your child to school and stay and play with them for a while!)

Wednesday 8th November 9.00 a.m: RECEPTION L Stay and Play (bring your child to school and stay and play with them for a while!)

AFTERSCHOOL CLUB CUT OFF TIME

Just to remind you, there is a 1.00 p.m. deadline for ‘on the day After School Club bookings. We cannot accept any children after this deadline, as we cannot ensure that we have the correct levels of staffing in place at such short notice.

Both After School and Breakfast clubs are very busy now, so bookings for ASC must be before 1.00 p.m. otherwise you will have to make other arrangements for your child for that day. Please don’t assume that just because you have asked that there is a place available, check there has been confirmation from school.

PARKING IN BROOKSIDE SOUTH

We have had more complaints from our neighbours in Brookside South that parents have been parking across their driveways when picking up KS1 children at the end of the day. One of our neighbours was unable to get into her own driveway last week when she returned home. Please be more considerate about where you park, it doesn’t matter if it is 5 or 15 minutes! Even better ‘park and stride’ or walk-set a good example for your child.

BIRTHDAY BOOKS

Thank you to all the children (and parents!) who have given such lovely books to their class to mark the special occasion of their birthday. It is such a great lasting reminder of their birthday rather than sweets or cakes that are eaten and forgotten! We also have many children with allergies that mean they may not be able to partake of the sweets or cakes, so a book is much nicer and can be enjoyed by all the children.

FOMS CHRISTMAS FAIR NEWS

FOMS is extremely pleased and excited to announce our Christmas Fair 2017 will be on Friday 8th December from 3:30-6:30pm! We had a great initial planning meeting last week and it is exciting to see the fair begin to take shape.  We are planning many different stalls and games but we will need your help. Although we won’t begin collecting any donations until after half-term, we thought it best to give everyone as much notice in case any toy or present clear outs happen over the upcoming half-term. The following is a list of donations we will be asking for after half-term, or other ways in which you can help support the Christmas Fair:

-          TOYS – including soft toys, games and/or general toys

-          PRESENTS – we will have a ‘Present Room’ for the children to go in and pick out a present for an adult in their life, whether it be their parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle etc. They will have the opportunity to wrap the present (with our helpers) to give as a gift during the holidays. These presents can be candles, picture frames, mugs, boxes of chocolate etc.

-          CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS – we will be trying our very best to make the school feel as magical as possible and will need quite a few Christmas decorations to do so. We will also need decorators when the time comes.

-          RAFFLE PRIZES – Do you have a business and would be willing to donate a prize for our Christmas Raffle? Or do you know someone who would? Perhaps you’d like to be in touch with local businesses to acquire raffle prizes? We would like to start gathering our raffle collection as soon as possible.

-          EXTERNAL STALL – Would you or someone you know like to purchase a stall at the Christmas Fair to sell your own items? The more stalls there are, the more festive it feels!

-          HOST AN ESTATE AGENT BOARD – Waterfield Brooke have agreed to sponsor the Christmas Fair with estate agent boards that promote the fair. Would you be happy to have a sign outside of your house for a few weeks leading up to the fair? If so, please email your address to FriendsOfMonkfrithSchool@gmail.com.  Please note, there are only 50 signs available so if we have more than 50 volunteers there is a chance you might not get a sign.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. Also, don’t forget about our Quiz Night on Friday 17th November. More information and tickets will be available after the half-term.

All the best,

Your FOMS Committee

WATERAID

CAKE SALE – FRIDAY 20TH OCTOBER on the top playground from 3.20 p.m.  Please send in cake donations this week. Only children attending After School Club, or an after school activity, or who are independent travellers need to bring their 50p into school.  Parents collecting their children at the end of the day can pay at the stall.

ROAD SAFETY

Barnet will be running a free child car seat checking and advice service on Thursday 26th October from 10am to 4pm in the Family Car Park at Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

HALF-TERM BREAK

Don’t forget that next week is our half-term break. School finishes at the usual time on Friday and After School Club will be running as normal.  School begins again on Monday 30th October. Have a lovely break, whatever you are doing, and I look forward to seeing you all after the holiday.
