SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Class

Week ending:

29 .3.18

Please note any children arriving in school after 9.15 a.m. will be marked in the

register as an ‘unauthorised absence’.

This may then trigger a meeting with the school’s Educational Social Worker (ESW)

to discuss punctuality.

Well done to 1D for very good attendance

before the Easter break and 4F for super attendance too.

Let’s hope the next half-term is a much

healthier one for children and staff!

MONKFRITH MUSICAL SUCCESSES

North London Music Festival            March 2018

Congratulations to the 15 recorder players who took part in the Recorder Class and achieved Joint First Place, and the Clarinet Trio who received First Prize in the Ensemble Class. The age of the players ranged from 6 to 11 years old, and each student received a certificate, and adjudication sheet.

On the day, the Recorder Ensemble performed three contrasting pieces, and the final piece which was played by memory was accompanied by Andrea Kokkinos in Y6 on the piano. The adjudicator Ian Wilson commented on the “fantastic introduction, and excellent sound and good breath control”.

The Clarinet Trio performed three movements from “Pepper and Salt” by Neil Garlard. The adjudicator was particularly impressed with their “excellent listening skills”.

The students behaved beautifully and were a credit to the school.

A huge thank you to the parents for all their support, and to the parents who helped out with transport to Hampstead Garden Suburb. It was much appreciated.

RETIREMENT-MRS ROSS

After many years of brilliant, inspirational teaching at Monkfrith, Mrs Ross has decided to hang up her spurs and put up her feet at the end of this term! Mrs Ross and I will be sharing a ‘Goodbye Tea Party’ for any current/ex parents and current/ex pupils who would like to come along to say farewell. Please pass the message around the community. Everyone is welcome.

We will be in the hall to welcome anyone that would like to come along, on Tuesday 16th July between 2.30p.m. and 5.30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

RETIREMENT-MR SMITH

Mr Smith, our site manager, also decided to take retirement at the end of February. He has been working at Monkfrith for 15 years. We thank him for all his work and commitment to Monkfrith over the years and hope he really enjoys his retirement.

AIR QUALITY

Several parents have mentioned to me the amount of parents who sit outside school in their cars with the engines running. This causes dangerous levels of pollutants that affect everyone’s health but children’s especially. While you are sitting in your cosy air conditioned car with the engine running you are causing damage to the delicate lungs of our children. PLEASE DON’T DO IT!

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION

One vacancy currently exists for a Parent Governor on the Governing Body for which an election is now being held. If you wish to seek nomination as an elected Parent Governor, please collect a nomination form from the School Office or download from the website (under the governor downloads tab).  This form should be completed, with the accompanying personal statement of no more than 150 words, and returned to the Headteacher no later than 12 noon on FRIDAY 27 APRIL 2018.

Information about the role has been emailed to you today.

NO BALLS ALLOWED IN THE PLAYGROUNDS AT THE END OF THE DAY

Please do not allow children to play football or other ball games in the playgrounds at the end of the school day. There are lots of parents and children around and there have been a few ‘near misses’ with footballs. Thank you.

FOMS HISTORY OF MATHS SHOW

On Tuesday 27th March children from Year 1 to 6 were given a spring term treat.  FOMS funded a fantastic theatre performance for the children about the history of maths.  It reinforced ideas that they have been learning about in class in a really exciting and engaging way.  Thank you FOMS.

FOMS ALLOTMENT AREA

Our new growing area was completed during the Easter break and is going to be a fantastic resource for our children. Thank you so much for your support in raising funds with the help of FOMS to provide such a great resource for our children. Y5 will be using the allotment area this half-term as part of their topic, so keep watching to see what they are growing.

Thank you to FOMs for organising great events for the school community that benefit our children in so many ways.

Our next project is the development of the sensory garden/ dry river bed in the dip, hopefully over the summer break. We are very lucky to have been successful with a recent lottery bid, thanks to Demetrios (2S) and Costandinos’(RR) mum. This will be match funded by FOMs to enable us to begin this project which will expand our play areas for the children and provide an interesting and imaginative place for our children to enjoy.

DROPPING OFF CHILDREN AT THE GATE IN THE MORNING

Please make sure that you stay to supervise your children if they are in Y1–Y4 until the gate is open at 8.30 a.m.  Monkfrith Way can be very busy and it is not safe to leave children unaccompanied. Thank you.
